International Congress (IC)

IC is something that many people in AIESEC never get to see for themselves, and yet everybody hears about it at one point or another. It is the largest and perhaps most important conference on the circuit. All 80+ member countries attend this meeting of nearly 500 people to discuss the future course of the organization, and to see just how big our student network really is. This year I was lucky enough to attend the first week of the 15 day conference as part of the volunteer logistics staff. I was hired to work, but I knew what I wanted to see, the Global Village. Every year at IC, there is an afternoon where a great fair is organized. All of the delegates are clad in their national dress, and offering traditional food and drink at a multitude of booths. This time around, we gathered in the Bundesplatz, the main square in Bern Switzerland to show off our countries to the world. The fair was open to the public and everybody from backpackers on the move, to curious residents, to television news crews stopped by our displays to savour our global microcosm. After this conference you come away with so many business cards with addresses of new friends the world over, it really is an experience to savour.
