Party in Hamburg

Michelle had friends visiting this weekend. Her brother and two old family friends were making a two week tour of western Europe, and had of course slated Hamburg into their itinerary. Michelle had decided to throw a party this weekend, and had thus invited people from far and wide. Her high school exchange partner Sonia who is now living in Berlin was also coming for the weekend, and of course I managed to come for the party too. Throwing a big party in Germany can be difficult as a host, you are generally expected to provide food and drink for your guests, even as a student, and thus parties can be costly affairs. What really helps, is when, like Michelle, you work for a beer company. Part of her job benefits include 40 litres of free beverages per month, and while this is normally spread out over juice and water, this particular month she had opted for beer. And somehow, word of that much free beer spreads quickly, and a party is suddenly easy to come by. The final key to a good party is the location, and what better place to hold your party than somebody else's apartment? There are a couple of other AIESEC trainees that live in Michelle's building that were willing to offer their home up for the occasion, and so Michelle's visitors were able to experience a real German house party.
